New Year, New goals, Another year of Freda’s voice 100+ book challenge

Wow the year went by reasonably fast. I actually have all day(damn not being able to sleep) till tonight when the ball drops. But above all new year means the end of Fredas 100+ book challenge 2014. I completed and exceeded with reading more then 255 books. I think I still need to add one or two to the final total. I need to create the next collection for this year on my kindle. Still dealing with the differences between the paperwhite and kindle. I dont want to delete my collections, but want my mom to have the chance to read on something she can actually read on. Wish I could just get her a new paperwhite.

I have few goals for the year. 100 more books, getting a job, writing one of my books. which I did regretfully neglect last year. I just need to find someone to keep me motivated and give me feed back. Which I don’t think Ill luck on. Im going to try and do more reviews, to refine my way of doing them more then anything.

So to the new year

And another year of the challenge you should consider joining

And this is apparently my 50th blog/post

Good way to start off I think

Kindle Fire HD 7 Vrs Kindle Paperwhite

So I got a kindle fire hd 7 for christmas and felt the need to compare how both feel to me so far. I got my kindle paperwhite from a blog hop over a year ago.

black-fas-slate-01-lg._V325436170_ kp-slate-01-lg-v4-hover._V325173783_

Kindle Fire HD 7 ~~~~ Kindle Paperwhite

First impressions of the new Kindle Fire HD 7 was it was extremely confusing, after I added my account to it. Already having a paperwhite I had expectations and hope it would be similar in handling. I was wrong they run vastly different.

It took me a while to learn how to get to what I wanted and where everything is. I spent a little while contacting amazon about some questions. The lady I got was kind, although a bit confused at what I was asking. I remained calm and understood it was Christmas and I was an idiot.

My biggest concern about a new kindle wasn’t books. It was my collections. I didn’t want to lose my lists and sections of books. I was considering/planning to give my paperwhite to my mother. Id need to deregister it though. After talking to the lady on the phone I did find out the answer. If I deregister on the kindle that started the collection, I will lose it. So Im looking into options that wont include deregistering. Or Ill have to remake the list and add all the books.  Yippee.

The Kindle Fire HD 7 has what Id call and really steep learning curve. I was excited for color. But took a while to figure how to get my music on it, or if I could get the MLP game app on my kindle(which I couldn’t). I found that when I checked my collections, I could no longer sort how they were presented. Which I don’t like.

The Paperwhite wasn’t as hard to get used to from what I recall. But it also has the kindle manual as one of the first things it uploads. That manual was very easy for me to read and learn from. While the help section on the Fire confused me.

With sorting options. The Fire has the same options as the paperwhite. But the paperwhite if you search will go into the books, not just the title if your looking for something.

On the paperwhite if I hold down on a book from amazon I get a page that pops up that gives me options. Including to look up the book on amazon, the x ray, and other things. However the Fire so far from what I see only lets you view your purchase on goodreads. It still has the option of collections(creating/add) and the remove. But I haven’t found the x ray yet.

The color on the Fire is amazing, I love to see the colors of the covers, and the cameras are decent I think. There is two of them one in front and one in back. The speakers so far give me nice sound although Ive only listened to music.

On the Paperwhite the docs pop up in the same area as the books. With the Fire there is a separate section they pop up. This took me a while to figure out. However docs can still be put in collections. And you can view all your docs that are on your cloud(something new)

A few other things I discovered is in the docs you can tell if the items been added to a collection already. However with books you cant tell which collections you have added it too. This I also dislike since I am nitpicky like that.

The browser on the Fire is better then the one on the Paperwhite. Due to the fact Fire has color and can use flash. While the Paperwhite cant.

The Paperwhite is a bit older then the Fire. But far simpler and a great first kindle. The backlight can be brighter or darker. I love my paperwhite. And if I could Id just get my mom her own paperwhite and keep mine in a safe place. I’am a tad of a pack rat like that.

The Fire could be a good kindle for first timers. Probably easier for them then those used to other kindles. The steep learning curve I experienced was painful and I still have a lot to learn about it to figure what I like. I have minor gripes and pout moments because I miss things I’am used to. But the fire has a lot going for it, it has more options and while it is more complex, that’s not a bad thing.

So that’s my comparison and thoughts on the two kindles.

I will probably blog about my experience with the family library when I experience it.(Its an option to let my mom read off the paperwhite, without deleting my stuff)

Holiday times and Last Fredas list update for 2014(Past 250 books)

Ah holidays. My family didnt have our tree set up till the day before christmas. My family I think celebrates more out of habit then the real holiday. ^.^; which I don’t think is bad. We like giving gifts to each other and celebrating the season of whats supposed to be snow. Winter is long and a holiday during it helps to keep us warm.

My Christmas consisted of two things, and I got neither. Socks and a filter water bottle.

Instead of those I got

A 3dsXL red preused

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire

A Kindle Fire HD 7

A kindle case(which is the wrong type)

A 25 dollar amazon gift card

A fluffy warm soft fuzzy jacket ❤

Sheesh I made out like a bandit this year, and my dads planning to take me to my favorite store(Celestial Awakening) to get rocks. I love Rocks *happy sigh* more though I like the time there because I get to spend it with my father. I love my family.

Now is probably the time to start considering what I want to do next year. Over all and as goals. Something I do at times try to do, but rarely follow through. I lacked motivation and reason. I plan next year, the year of 2015 to apply for financial aid, and apply to college. I still havent figure WHAT I want to do, but Im considering some writing classes, maybe some history(Hate honestly, but if I think hetalia Ill get through)

I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday. And got some warm moments with those around you. Love keeps us human, even when the ones you love annoy the living crapsicles out of you.

Wow cant believe its almost been a full year of books.

I have long since finished and completed Freda’s Voice 100+ book challenge. Which was fun and exciting. I actually enjoyed keeping track of the books I read, although need to link my latest reviews. I plan to take part of her next challenge too.

While this is the last time Im posting this up, I will be adding new books as I read till Dec 31 by then hopefully Ill get past 250

New blog colors/pictures

A blog I probably shouldn’t even post but yep I updated my blog. Been a long while since I played around with it so took me a while to figure what I needed to do to make it look right and the colors not to blanch out.

I wanted something brighter since its the winter months where I live and the dark/cold annoys me.  Found the image of my header first but chose to use a picture of the sunrise for the background. Im quiet happy with this for now. But really need to get around to making/creating some things of my own to put up.

Also more reviews to come. Ended up reading the third and fourth of the Lioness series away from computer so didnt properly review them. May have to reread and try again or I may only review the first/second of each of Tamora’s series. Missing the first two of the next series so have to wait till I have it, to review it.

Book description:

Still disguised as a boy, Alanna becomes a squire to none other than the prince of the realm. Prince Jonathan is not only Alanna’s liege lord, he is also her best friend—and one of the few who knows the secret of her true identity. But when a mysterious sorcerer threatens the prince’s life, it will take all of Alanna’s skill, strength, and magical power to protect him—even at the risk of revealing who she really is…

Mmmhmm yep two book finished in less then a day and a drive to review.

The hand of the goddess is the second book in the Alanna novels. With the initial world and characters set up in the first book. The second book helps to evolve the world even more. Alanna has grow into being a full grown woman 18 years old. By the end of the book(tiny spoiler).

Reading this book Im reminded more and more why I love the Alanna series and Tamora Pierce series in general. There is of course many sad things that occur. But everything has its place and it leads to a very realistic writing.

Yep realisitic to me even with all the magic, old ones, gods, squires and pages. This is a fantasy book that feels real. And as you can tell, this is a series I CANT put down. The next two books in the series will have to wait because sleep calls.

Book Description:

“From now on I’m Alan of Trebond, the younger twin. I’ll be a knight.”

And so young Alanna of Trebond begins the journey to knighthood. Alanna has always craved the adventure and daring allowed only for boys; her twin brother, Thom, yearns to learn the art of magic. So one day they decide to switch places: Disguised as a girl, Thom heads for the convent; Alanna, pretending to be a boy, is on her way to the castle of King Roald to begin her training as a page. But the road to knighthood is not an easy one. As Alanna masters the skills necessary for battle, she must also learn to control her heart and to discern her enemies from her allies. Filled with swords and sorcery, adventure and intrigue, good and evil, Alanna’s first adventure begins—one that will lead to the fulfillment of her dreams and make her a legend in the land.

A small and little known fact about myself. Tamora Pierce will ALWAYS been one of my favorite authors. Her books I grew up with and they fueled my imagination like gasoline fuels a fire.

The First adventure is the first book in the Lioness series about a Girl Alanna who wants to be a knight in a time when woman were not given the chance. She sneaks her way into it and does amazing.

I read this book many many many years ago. I loved it then and I adore it more even now. I am more aware of what Im reading and I had become unable to recall specifics. I usually hate rereading books. But this is a series and a book I may even reread a few weeks from now.

Alanna is a inspiration to woman and girls. She paves her own way through hard work and quick thought. And yes while she tricks, harasses and at times manipulates. She does it within reason I feel. The other characters are just as good and loved by me. I cried, I laughed and I smiled. Reading this. . . was like reading a fond memory.

I feel this series is a must read for young girls, teen girls, adult woman, and boys/men. This is a series with meat and grit and passion. The land of Tortall is large, and well thought out.

Book description:

Three sexy secret agents. Three even sexier missions…

Bianca, Sonja and Trinity were given a choice—become RLS-69 special agents or continue to serve out their prison sentences at the Restigatio Woman’s Correctional Facility. Trained to complete their mission by any means necessary, these women aren’t afraid to pull out all the stops. With their freedom on the line, they’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done. From combat to seduction, their targets won’t know what hit them until it’s too late. There’s only one problem…their handsome targets have a few secret weapons of their own.

Mm Mmm Mm. First three things that come to mind after reading this book. I knew this was interesting walking into the book. Interesting concept that misses my love of warrior woman, warrior men, magic, psychic stuff and paranormal. All in one *heavenly sigh* This is a four parter, setting up then each gal and her guy. The characters where rather beleivable to me and I ADORED the different era/area/ways it was played. I just finished the book, and crave CRAVE the next like a drug. The sex was nice but the plot and how its played is what I want. I like new twists, something I haven’t read before. This was just what I needed.

The Lady leaders Bianca, Sonja and Trinity where cool collected and capable. Abby makes me sad and I find Simon a bit too pervy for my personal tastes. But I wont hold it against him.

Ive also recently learned not to hold the length of a book/series against it. Common sense I know. I wished it was longer but all the same it felt like just the right length for it. I couldn’t actually find anything I didn’t dislike enough to hold against it.

5/5 Kick assness
